Fluid

How it Works:
Hot fuel
or oil is chilled within the heat exchanger as
its cooling medium is pumped through. The cooling medium can
either be (a) cold refrigerant return gas from the
evaporator, or (b) ambient ram air chilled
liquid using a standard finned heat
exchanger, or (c) a stored, pre-chilled liquid.
As the cooling gas or liquid bathes the internal hot
liquid-filled interface, heat
is transferred from the hot liquid to the
cooling medium.
Hot liquid enters through one of the small
fittings on the side of the tubular heat
exchanger, and exits the other fitting AT A
LOWER TEMPERATURE.
Applications:
-
FUEL COOLER:
Prevents fuel
starvation to the engine due to fuel
vaporization, also referred to as
"vapor lock". Also
improves engine power by providing high
density liquid to the engine.
-
OIL & FLUID COOLER:
Oil can lose
some of its lubricity when it gets overheated.
Since vehicle speed and engine fan rpm is
constantly changing, overheating can occur
when climbing hills, pulling a trailer, or
carrying cargo because the cooling derived
from air flow is not constant. Standard
finned transmission oil coolers are not very
effective because they are dependent on ram
air flow across their surfaces, and through
grills that have an abundance of clutter which
further obstructs air flow. Automatic
transmission performance would improve if a
more constant source of oil cooling were
available using the air conditioner to reduce the oil
temperatures. It has been
estimated that the oil life of transmission is
doubled for every 20-degree drop in
temperature, and that overheating causes 9 out
of 10 transmission failures.
Accessories:
-
Digital
Thermometer:
MONITOR
OIL or FUEL TEMPERATURES using a dash-mounted 12 volts
DC powered thermometer with lighted digital
readout. Includes:
Thermocouple cable (6' length), and stainless
steel mounting faceplate.
-
Thermocouple Housing:
Standard
size inlet/out fittings are 5/16", 3/8, 1/2",
7/8" female pipe threads (NPT). Custom
sizes & tube configurations may be special
ordered per customer's requirements.
-
Custom
Thermometer Housings:
Cool
Flow can produce special purpose mounting
brackets & housings or your special needs.
-
Remote
Oil Thermostat:
REGULATE
OIL TEMPERATURE automatically to about 180 deg
F. For use with transmission & engine
oil coolers. Prevents over-cooling in
cold climates. For use in cold climates,
providing quicker warm-ups to operating
temperature.
Installation:
The larger fittings on each
end of the device are the inlet & outlet for
cold refrigerant gas or another cooling
medium. The smaller
fittings extending from the sides of the tube
are the inlet & outlet of its internal heat
exchange interface. Other fitting
combinations can be special ordered. For
best results, install so that the flow
directions are opposite each other.
